Strategic Team Shift

01
Introducing the product

Teams can lose their way for all sorts of reasons. Relationships become strained, trust can slip, accountability becomes blurred, or ways of working that once served the team simply stop working. Sometimes the difficulties are obvious; at other times the team is functioning, but performance feels harder than it should.

Strategic Team Shift is a structured Bridge process that helps a team understand what is getting in the way and create stronger, more effective ways of working together. By working with the leader, individual team members and the team as a whole, we build a much fuller picture of what people are experiencing and what needs to shift.

02
The thinking behind the approach

A team cannot be properly understood by looking at only one part of it. The leader may experience the team in one way, while individual team members experience it very differently. Relationships, behaviours, organisational pressures and established ways of working all influence what is happening.

Strategic Team Shift works across these different perspectives to create an aerial view of the team. Through confidential insight, coaching and mentoring, facilitated team sessions and practical interventions, we can work with the different parts of the team separately and bring them back together at the points where it matters. The strength of the approach is not any single activity; it is the way the whole process works together.

03
The challenges it addresses

Strategic Team Shift can be used with teams experiencing anything from a loss of momentum or alignment through to more established patterns of conflict, mistrust or dysfunction. It can also support teams going through significant change, or those that are performing reasonably well but know they could work much better together.

  • strained working relationships or recurring conflict
  • declining trust or psychological safety
  • unclear accountability, ownership or decision-making
  • communication that has become guarded or ineffective
  • disconnect between the leader and the wider team
  • behaviours or ways of working that are limiting performance

We don't begin by labelling a team as dysfunctional or toxic. We begin by understanding what people are experiencing, what is influencing that experience and what may be getting in the way of the team succeeding.

04
The approach in practice

The process begins by establishing the context, what needs to change and what success should look like. From there, 360° insight helps build self-awareness across both the leader and team, followed by separate coaching and mentoring that gives people the space to explore their own contribution to the team dynamic.

As the process develops, individual work is combined with facilitated team sessions, practical workshops and a team Hackathon designed to turn identified barriers into new ways of working. At key points the different streams come back together, including through Speak Your Truth, creating the opportunity for honest conversation, shared responsibility and practical commitment. It is a proven core pathway, but one that remains flexible enough to respond to what emerges as the team moves through it.

05
What it makes possible

Strategic Team Shift is designed to move a team towards greater trust, accountability, alignment and collective ownership. Depending on where the team starts, that might mean healthier challenge, clearer decision-making, stronger relationships, greater psychological safety or simply much more effective ways of working together.

Importantly, the team does not finish the process dependent on the facilitator. The learning, decisions, commitments and new ways of working developed throughout the intervention are brought together in the Bridge Client Playbook. This gives the team something practical to continue working with and, because they have helped create it, genuine ownership of what happens next.
